Nancy Margaret (Knott) Loiero, whose boundless energy, fierce devotion to family, and legendary flair for parties lit up every room she entered, died peacefully in her home on June 2. She was 90 years old.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Irish immigrant parents during the Great Depression, Nancy grew up in the city's historic St. John's Old 10th Ward-a vibrant enclave of Irish and Italian immigrants. There, she forged lifelong friendships that would become the bedrock of a rich, joy-filled life. Even in her final years, she spoke fondly of those early days, the enduring bonds, and the laughter shared with the "Good Time Girls"-a treasured group of girlfriends with whom she shared a lifetime of love, loyalty, and adventure.

She married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Gerard Loiero, in 1955 at St. John the Evangelist Church. Together they built a family and a life marked by service, resilience, and an open-door policy for neighbors, friends, and anyone in need of a good meal or a place to laugh.

Nancy and Joe raised two sons-Thomas, born in 1956, and Joseph, in 1957-and in 1968, the family moved from Baltimore to Fallston, in Harford County, settling into a home that became the epicenter of their world. There, Nancy created more than just a home for her family: she nurtured a vibrant social life, hosted legendary gatherings, and doted on a rotating cast of beloved pets-dogs, cats, and even the occasional wild critter from her backyard, all of whom found sanctuary under her watchful care.

In the 1990s, she and Joe fulfilled a dream: a vacation home in Ocean City, a place that held magical memories of summers Nancy spent with her beloved Aunt Sadie. The beach house, with its bayside dock and tranquil sunsets, became a haven for family and a setting for unforgettable summer weekends filled with storytelling, laughter, big breakfasts, days spent on the beach, afternoon cheese boards and frozen margaritas, and dinners from the grill, all set to a soundtrack of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin (her favorite!), and Bob Marley. Occasionally, there were even times of quiet reflection - though anyone familiar with Nancy's crew knows that "quiet" is not exactly a frequent visitor to the Loiero family!

Though her life was filled with joy, Nancy was no stranger to hardship. Raised by a single mother, she learned early the value of thrift, work ethic, and self-reliance. Her family often teased her for the contents of her well-stocked (and occasionally questionably dated) freezer, a charming, yet poignant, nod to her enduring Depression-era sensibilities. Part of Nancy's lore was her brush with tuberculosis, an illness that required months of in-patient hospitalization and partial lobectomy of her lung. Despite the severity of her illness and the condition in which she was left, Nancy refused to slow down, and was active for the rest of her life, enjoying running and walking whichever family dog was in need of miles and miles of exercise.

Professionally, Nancy found pride and purpose at PepsiCo, where she began as a receptionist and rose to become an indispensable Executive Assistant. Despite the busy days and long hours, Nancy always brought her characteristic cheer and warmth to work, and regarded her colleagues there not just as coworkers but as cherished friends. Her years at Pepsi remained a source of pride and joy throughout her life.

She loved people-and people loved her. Nancy could always be found at the heart of any celebration, often one of the last to leave a party, regaling her grandchildren with stories about how she'd dance the night away while Joe Sr, rarely the night owl, would leave early to go home for some peace and quiet.

Nancy is preceded in death by her mother, brother Thomas Knott, grandson Thomas Jr., husband Joseph, and many dear friends and neighbors from the 10th Ward. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and humor that lives on in her sons, Thomas (Laura) and Joseph (Andrea); her grandchildren Johnny, Michael, Jason, Amanda (Chris), Joseph Jr (Sarah), Brian (Samantha), and Alexandra (Jerome); her great-grandchildren John Luke, Natalia, Christopher, Natalie, and Thor; a great big family of cousins; and of course, her sweet cat Georgie.

Nancy Margaret Loiero lived a life brimming with love, resilience, and laughter. Her spirit will endure in every story told at family gatherings, every dance floor where someone stays a little longer, and every home where the freezer is always full...even if some of it is a little frostburnt and/or from a decade past. When she arrived at the Pearly Gates, there is no doubt she was met with roaring applause from the friends and loved ones who had been waiting-cocktails in hand.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 7 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Forest Hill, MD from 12 to 2 pm, with service at 2:15 pm. Following the service will be a celebration of Nancy's extraordinary life: one last party in her honor, just the way she would have wanted.

Memories and condolences may be shared at www.inlyf.co
